Granny Gardeners

A couple of weeks ago 'Fi came our of school asking would I volunteer to help out with planting in the school allotment. I said I would go one half day. This it seems is one half day every week! Today was the first day.
I arrived just before 1p.m. and filled in the visitor's book and got my identity disc. In to school and met up with Betty my fellow Gran.
The sun was shining but the wind was very strong. Off we went with the member of staff overlooking the project. Into a huge allotment area. This is for the public and the school have half a plot.
Their's is all paved with seating with raised beds. This no doubt all down to health and safety They also have a tiny pond with frogs in.
It was quite sheltered where we were working and the two hours went really quickly.
We are the maintainance crew. Coming in to help keep the weeds down and prepare the ground for the children for planting during their lesson. They have already got quite a lot in but the students who had helped them plant the runner beans had not put poles in properly so it is fingers crossed that the plants which had started to grow will survive.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to seeing the results.
Things already planted are:-
onions
potatoes
Runner beans
flowers
