I want to be the same as you!
This morning I discovered how hard it is to get 3 little girls out of the house and up to school on the last day of term. The excitement causes them to loose all common sense. Shoes went on the wrong feet. Important bits and bobs were almost left behind.
Just as it looked like we had achieved readiness the oldest says to the youngest "do you want to wear your red coat just like
Lucy?"
This little red coat is not waterproof. And yes you've guessed it, it was raining. However There was no way I was going to win this argument. The littlest one wanted to be just like me, after all if I was wearing my red coat why couldn't she wear hers?
So after a stream of tears we got to school with school bags, boots (on the right feet), 2 girls in waterproofs and 1 in a red coat that matched mine.
At the age of 4 it's flattering that she wants to be just like me.
However We live in a culture that tells us we can get what we want. We need to be like this or like that. We want her hair, or his muscles or her confidence or his wealth or her clothes. We all strive to be individual and unique by doing what everyone else does. How does that work?? (it doesn't)
