Coptic Cairo
Me and Big John decided to culture ourselves a little bit and visit Coptic Cairo. We hit a bit of a problem when we arrived at 3.57pm find out the museum closed at 4pm, oops.
Not to be disheartened we walked around the area seeing the best and the worst of Cairo, beautifully maintained walled areas surrounded by mounds of filth and rubbish.
We finally found our way into a small church in Coptic Cairo, the photo is of a 18th century stained glass window. It cast vivid colours all across the room making it purple, red and yellow. A stark contrast from the dull browns of the rest of the interior and the beige surrounding the building.
Yet more contrast, as we walked through an extremely peaceful, relaxing area of Cairo 8 miles down the road in Tahrir Square more protests took place. Thousands of Egyptian demanding more reforms and frustrated at the slow pace change is happening.
A good sentiment but a dose of reality is needed. After decades of corruption it's going to take years to improve the day to day lives of people here, not weeks or months. This sentiment is one voiced by almost all the Egyptian people we spoke to.
Some think the changes can't come quick enough, some want to wait...
