If there is one thing that I don't like all that much about San Francisco, it's that almost daily, I am confronted by either a beggar, someone with a petition, or someone looking for donations. I give what I can when I can, but I much prefer to not do it on the street.

In this instance, I had pretty much waved off the person, then saw the jacket he was wearing and couldn't help striking up a conversation with him as he was clearly from Michigan, whence I came a little over a year ago. We talked a little about that and I told him I was once a member of the ACLU (the organization for which he was canvassing) and would eventually join again.
