The Volunteer Monitor
I started monitoring at the pool tonight. I've been a monitor almost since the start of arriving in this town four years ago.
Last September, I felt a little burnt out. I had put in over 260 volunteer hours to that point in the year...this following over 450 hours in 2009. I decided to take a hiatus until April. Well, April is here and I'm back at it. Three nights a week at the start...three hours each night. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays beginning at six in the evening.
A pool monitor, which is what I am, is not a life guard. Basically, we are there to make sure that it's a safe and healthy environment for the members. It's a semi-public pool.
As it says on the sign, members must swipe their cards in the attendance reader before they can enter through the gate to the pool. The gate isn't locked but they can't get past me without swiping!
Oh, about the little thing in the blip...I had to cover my last name with something and all I had was last week's edition of Time magazine. So I thought it would be fun to memorialize this blip with a little of Moammar Ghaddafi, since hopefully we won't be hearing or seeing much about him in the future.
When you're good, you're good! :)
