What a final that was..

There was an unexpected plan made to watch the world cup final on a large screen when I was with my brother, along with his friends. Almost all the hotels and cafe shops were booked by that time, and we just somehow managed to get in to a place called Shangri La. It had some cover charges that included some snacks and beverages, which we enjoyed till it lasted. It was a large room, dark, almost packed with people sitting all over any available space. We managed to get some space and got seated comfortably while the team Sri Lanka closed their innings at its best. It was not any longer before the team India got down to batting. It was a very disappointing start, and we all were sulking about how only tough it can get. All the superstitious ways of thinking, of analyzing the calendar and drawing similarities would all prove fatal in the end, not that it is any less than being a myth which we often tend to get drawn towards. At the back of my mind, there were a couple of players I could imagine playing in a particular way for the revival. It was incredible when it happened. Every single run that was scored, there was an applause with some hope from the audience. As anxious I was, I enjoyed watching it immensely with the crowd, the beats and the claps. It could not get any better.
In the end, after the much deserved victory the people went bizarre in every way. They went crazy on the streets, the sight or the city which I have never seen or could imagine. The roads had become a parking land, the cars stood, and the people danced to glory.. Men, women and families, either jutting out of the car windows or dancing in the middle. The hysteria, the slogans, the waving of flags.. the celebrations had begun. And all this was for a day, a day that made history.
I could only wish that D could have joined us too. This was so much about the city that one doesn't get to see otherwise.
