Tarka the Otter

This is the memorial to Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water. It sits high on a cliff overlooking Monreith Bay, Wigtonshire. He is often associated with the far north west of Scotland, but he was from the village of Elrig, a few miles along the coast, where my friend Eddie lives. We love visiting him, as we love this beautiful, largely unspoilt and quiet corner of Scotlands' far south west.
