Sgwarnog: In the Field

Spring and Rebound

The buds are breaking out now, and fresh green leaves are begionning to soften the landscape. Last Friday I reflected on the changing colours of the moor, but this picture captures it much more successfully. The flat, brown bracken still dominates, with no sign yet of this year's growth peeping through. The rough pasture at the edge of the moor is greening up, and the rowan saplings are waving bright green fronds.

There were plenty of Meadow Pipits in this corner of the moor today, but I didn't see the Stonechats that have been resident in this spot. A couple of fields round the corner, the Lapwings have finally returned, sharing their space with the rabbits.
