Bernie Spain
I found myself on the London South bank today. I couldn't have picked better weather. It was glorious. I was not the only person so lucky. Hordes of French school children were everywhere. I had to check a few times to make sure I hadn't ended up in Paris. This sign helped. I was particularly pleased it was yellow.
But who is or was, Bernie Spain? According to visitlondon.com, the gardens are named after "...Bernadette Spain, a local campaigner on health and housing provisions for the areas residents in the 1980s, the gardens are owned, managed and maintained by Coin Street Community Builders." Information on Coin Street can be found on their website, here.
The park is a lovely green oasis and, apparently, a lovely rest stop for cyclists. It was quite full today but mostly with office workers and school kids on a day out.
