Perry Pewter Pot

This 'pot' that features as part of the Scottish Ancient Universities Society golf match is known as the Perry Pewter Pot and is awarded to the player with the biggest margin of victory on the second day of the event.

A wee bit of background required I think - this historic match has been played for many years with the current trophy going back to 1952. A beautiful silver quaich with the four univesity crests engraved in the bowl ... Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and St Andrews is played for over two days. In recent years the match has been reduced to a three-way competition because St Andrews University cannot raise a golf team of six staff (hard to believe I know!)

Anyway, more on the main trophy tomorrow because tonight is only half way through the event.

After the society's AGM, last year's winner of this secondary trophy (the Perry Pewter Pot blipped here) is obliged to supply a bottle of whisky for general consumption. This is usually a bottle of Old Fettacairn if it can be sourced, as that was the local distillery to Edzell where we used to play the annual matches.Map!

So this blip captures the moment just BEFORE it was opened!
The eagle-eyed will notice that this is a bottle of Glenfarclas single malt, which seemed to go down just as well!
