Desk job

1. My work motor cranked suddenly back into operation after two fairly calm days at the start of the week. The list that had most things ticked lands in the bin and a new one takes it's place.

2. A hasty untasty lunch, a headache, a barrage of long distance nonsense by e mail that infuriates and depresses in equal measure seems to loom large. But a couple of hours of creativity brightens the day and everything passes.

3. We head to the Captains Rest for the launch of a new album by Jonnie Common. First there's a pint and a macaroni cheese.

4. There are 8 bands playing - each performs 2 songs 1 of which comes from the album that Jonnie has produced. This is a really gorgeous musical feast - all mellow folk, technoed up with digital pokery. The basement is packed and warm and full of very cool noise. Gilly and her friend Jo sit either side of us with their matching footwear.

5. The album is called Deskjob. Today, that's the only positive thing that can be said about deskjobs.
