Hump back

The "white bridge" at Whitebridge. On one of General Wade's military roads it was engineered by Major William Caulfeild in 1732 to cross the river Fechlin. It is sometimes regarded as one of the best examples of a humpback bridge in Britain but access on to it has been obstructed. The modern road bridge carrying the B862 passes within a few yards. The road went from Inverness to Kilchumein (later known as Fort Augustus). Caulfeild was a very prolific road builder.
