Autumn 5: at the place that eats the wind

Blowing out of the Southern Ocean, a strong wind is pushing big waves and kelp onto the beach at Te Raekaihau.

Te Raekaihau is a Maori name for the headland between Lyall Bay and Houghton Bay, on Wellington's south coast. In English, the name means 'the place that eats the wind'.

Here's another Te Raekaihau photo that I took in January - 'Track of the gull'.
