Rosyth Dockyards Goliath

I had been up to my mum and dads for a couple of nights for a private family event. After a day of varying dramas, it was nice to get back to my mum and dads. As I crossed the bridge, I couldn't help noticing these large cranes and wanted to get a blip of them before the sun went down. So, after feeding Tigga, I got my camera ready and went for a wander. This crane had been constructed in Shanghai for the main purpose of assembling the Royal Navy's new Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers. After chatting to my sister, I heard that this crane had been sitting off in the Forth Estuary for three weeks before the tide was low enough for it to pass through under the Forth Bridges. Apparently this crane is strong enough to lift two of the modules of the carriers. All I can hope is that when these carriers are built, they are both retained for British use instead of being sold elsewhere.

With this shot, I loved the way the setting sun was glistening on some of the structure of the crane - definetely a case of good timing.

This also comes in a bigger size - unfortunately not as bigs as the crane, although thats probably not a bad thing.

Passing Under the Forth Bridges.
PS. If you look closely - especially at the bigger version, you should see the last remaining in-service Invincible class carrier - Illustrious, emerging from her latest refit.
