American Buffalo(Bison)

This iconic symbol of America once roamed freely by the millions. They were hunted down for many reasons not the least of which were for the hides, bones and making room for the large cattle operations that moved cattle from the south to the north for pasturing and fattening up. The buffalo extermination also had a huge impact on the native american indians. Buffalo was the indians main food supply along with deer, elk and antelope. Killing a cow for food was considered natural by the indians. They had no concept of ownership. This hastened the wars between the settlers and the indians. There is much more to the history of the indian and settlers but for now, it will have to do.
