This hummingbird got trapped in our friend's garage overnight, and we presumed it was dead when it turned up comatose in this old box of bubblewrap, but as I was trying to photograph these beautiful feathers I saw it was still breathing. We put the box in the sun and mixed up some honey water in a spoon, and pretty soon it was drinking and moving in little shudders. A neighbor with a history of good animal rescues came and took it away to be nursed, and we all learned that the bird needed to be warmed up a bit before it could even hope to fly. I'm sorry I can't say whether or not it lived happily ever after, because although this is a story about how a photograph saved a bird, I don't know the ending.
