Hide Away Folk Family

Fair exchange

There's a classic 1950s Telephone Exchange Building in the middle of Lewes. It's not much loved and clearly far too big now for its purposes. Mechanical phone exchanges have now been superseded by much smaller electronic arrays. But the building is still there, although no-one ever seems to go in or out.

Actually it's not the building I like so much as the lettering in the signage. The metal letters hang out from the brick wall in their simple san serif style. There's a Royal Crown below, I guess relating to its historic Post Office roots. And that's it for anything telling you what it is.

To complement the simplicity of the 1950s design I have turned this shot into an abstract geometric image with a square crop.

I enjoy the final balance of the image, and the brilliance of the blue morning sky enlivening the bland sandstone and render.
