"Tour Friend"
I love the thought that my garden has probably been productive for the past 160 years.
It doesn't take more than a few minutes of digging before various 'finds' are unearthed.
Here is a little collection gathered after no more than 30 minutes in the vegetable patch.
Clay pipe stems appear all the time, but I've not had one before with writing on like this which says 'Tour Friend' the pipe bowls are rarer.
The huge amount of broken ceramics, each one here with a different pattern, lead me to believe there were some 'Clumsy Dunstons' living here in the past.
I have been told that it was past practice to put pieces of pottery and glass into the veg patch as it acted in the same way as storage heaters, the sun warming them during the day and then giving off the heat at night. I don't know if it's true, but it's a nice thought.
An early blip today as I am minding 3 children later on for some friends who are going to the theatre. Pond dipping then pancakes are on the agenda I think!
Edit: I too thought it should say 'Your friend' when I first found it. Maybe an error when made
