Dear Dairy....
This is the Dairy at Wimpole Hall Home Farm in Cambridgeshire owned and run by the National Trust. It is an octagonal building, on the north side of the farm, which is tiled inside and may have originally had a fountain in the middle of room. All these features combine to create the lowest possible ambient temperature for the milk maids to churn butter. It was built in 1862 and school parties can still see demonstrations of a Victorian dairymaid making butter.
We had a lovely walk round the farm seeing new lambs, kid goats and piglets as well as the usual milking demonstration, donkey grooming and shire horses. All topped off nicely with coffee and cake.
