The battle of the Primslips
My woodland wildflower meadow (half the garden) is a sea of wild primroses and cowslips.
It looks absolutely stunning, which why it became a wildflower meadow in the first place, it's just too nice to mow.
Cowslips, primroses and their cultivated cousins the primulas are a volatile cocktail when flying insects are intoduced.
Every year there are new self seeded crosses bringing different colours and shape combinations. I dig up and move some of the prettier ones into the flower beds, in order to keep the wild garden looking native.
The new cultivars are known as Cowroses - they're big and blousey.
The Primslips, are of course delicate and demure.
Waiting in the wings? The Bluebell Girls.
