Coronation Stone, Kingston no 3: Edmund
King Edmund crowned at Kingston in 940 - giving the lie to any who thought it was a strange first name for prince Edmund Blackadder! To note at the top of the corontaion stone, an Anglo-Saxon coin from Edmund's time, gifted by the British Museum, set into the stone. There's one for each of the seven Saxon kings. In recent years, locals have taken to leaving coins on the plinth for good luck or some other reason.
