Gillipaw's Journal

St Andrew's RC Cathedral, Glasgow

Re-opened this week after a two year, £4.5 million restoration programme. The immediate impression is light, what a transformation. Much use of marble and gold leaf. The baptismal font in the centre is seemingly made from same Carrara marble used by Michelangelo in his Pieta. It was designed by the sculptor Tim Pomeroy. I was also taken with the newly commissioned work by Peter Howson of The Martyrdom of St John Ogilvie. It is in a side chapel, however there were many people at prayer and I did not wish to intrude, so you have a clear view to the altar here.

So why did I take this with my little pocket IXUS camera? Disappointed with the dirty viewfinder following a sensor clean earlier in the week, I saught advice and then went back into town. The result is the camera needed a new prism, could be done within the hour, so off to the Cathedral I went. I have to say the whole sensor cleaning episode has been rather stressful. However, I now have a completely clear view for my next Blip.
