Life imitating art

When we first moved into our house last September, we went looking for a desk for the study, and didn't find anything suitable. However, on the way out of Ikea, we went through the kitchen section, which contained wooden worktops ... gave us the idea of using worktops to make a desk. So, Neil designed, modelled and built the desk you see in this picture, with some help on the carpentry front from my Dad when my parents visited us a couple of weeks ago. Several coats of oil later, the final thing was put together this afternoon, and it is just perfect!

You can see the model Neil made to check dimensions, practicality of the design, etc sitting on the desk (the blue thing). Amazing that this started life in Neil's imagination and now I'll be working and studying at this :)
