neglect
I was in town again today and decided to take a quick detour on my way back to work. Just a few hundred yards from the main street in East Grinstead, on the corner of an intersection, stands a complex of new-ish apartments. With an edifice of polished steel and glittering glass they are undoubtedly a paragon of modern architecture and probably attracted a great deal of interest when they first became available to buy/rent.
Standing on the opposite corner however, is the rear aspect shown above (the back of Superdrug for those of you who are familiar with East Grinstead). Though inspiring to a photographer's eye, its decrepit state is evidence of years of neglect and seemed strangely incongruous to me; juxtaposed with its younger, prettier neighbour. I would have liked to have posted a shot which included both buildings but sadly none of my efforts really worked.
I may have to revisit the project for a subsequent blip :0)
