Oh God, It's Erling

Mak' it Roond

I spent all of today cooking, because my mother had friends coming over. First they were going to fix the bathroom sink (their job), then we were going to have dinner (my job).

Problem is, the friend is on a doctor-implemented diet at the moment, so my menu had to contain no wheat, meat, dairy or potato. Which as it turns out, rules out a LOT of food. So in the end I settled on (and prepared, without too many serious problems) the following:

Tea/Coffee:
Macaroons - Chewy and sweet, with a couple of different fillings. The one pictured above is Peanut Butter. I love peanut butter. Didn't quite turn out right though, I really need a piping bag for next time.

Amuse Bouche:
Ginger and Pear Espuma - Flavoured foam in a martini glass! Who could complain?

Starter:
Spanish Rice with Orange - Tomato-based paella dish, served in a half orange.

Main:
Thai Quorn Noodles - Rice noodles in a spicy lemongrass and coconut sauce with baby corn, sugarsnap peas and beansprouts.

Dessert:
Raspberry Baked Alaska - baked alaska normally has a cake base, which obviously contains wheat flour. So instead I used some of the macaroon shells from earlier on as the base, which also added a nice crisp chewy almond hint to the pudding. Served with a raspberry vinegar coulis.

A long day, and now I'm worn out. But that's okay.
