the tannery

yes, we fell for the 'come see tannery auction - only on today.'

folk led us through a maze of small streets, gave us a bunch of mint - 'your gas mask' - to protect us from the smell, told us interesting info then took us to a rug shop. (what back-breaking work we saw, thigh deep in noisesome water, beating heavy wet camel skins in the blazing midday sun!)
we escaped without buying, only to be met by our guide outside who demanded payment for the photos he'd previously said were free 'because we are all family.' luckily we hadn't yet exchanged any cash & only has a little currency on us - he wasn't impressed!

we learned fast, & weren't mean with our money, just chose when to give it.
