Carousel Ride
Most of today was spent at the Grand Rapids Public Museum, which is a wonderful, eclectic collection of miscellaneous stuff, with so many blip possibilities.
I settled on the carousel, which was built in 1928 by the Spillman Engineering Company in New York. As you can see, it is still functional and is one of only three of its style to have been produced by the company. It revolves to the music of a Wurlitzer band organ.
The carousel is made up of 44 hand-carved, be-jeweled wooden horses, two chariots, and 6 animals: giraffe, lion, deer, goat, tiger, and camel. I did not take a ride today, maybe next time.
The museum is located on the banks of the Grand River, which you can just see on the right, along with the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
Here's an earlier downtown profile that shows the round carousel section of the museum through the grid of the bridge on the left, and the Amway Grand Plaza and JW Marriott Hotels on the right.
