Amazing just how big a mouth even a small mackerel has.

So final proof that winter has been beaten into submission - the mackerel are back in numbers - I suspect I could have sunk the kayak with them today. As it was there was more than three of us could eat tonight, the rest are in the fridge for tomorrw along with some big herring, which I've not tried cooking before.

Other notable catches out on the mirror surface of the sea a mile off Budleigh: a starfish and (of all things...) a rock with a hole in it...perfectly on the hook...
