Alien???

Found this lying on the banks of a pond while out walking. It is about 18-20 inches long and 5-6 inches in diameter. Is it alien or some so far undiscovered prehistoric creature which has crawled out of the water?

Sorry to disappiont but it is only a large seed pod fron cut down vegetation.
