Proverbs 14:27
The inscription on the fountain reads:
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life
The full proverb appears in several different forms but is roughly along the lines of:
The fear of the LORD is the fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death
Disregarding my atheism for a minute, it's a great bit of architecture. The fountain was not working. Is this symbolic?
Of course it's not - it's a non working fountain!
That's all.
Son #1 put a little bit of investigative work and proved, beyond doubt, that the fountain was dry.
A lot of water fountains are in the same condition. Is it because water is now metered, is it because of a perceived health risk, is it because once broken they are never fixed. We should all have access to fresh, free water, if only to stick two fingers up to companies who try and sell it to us in environmentally ridiculous plastic bottles at vast profit.
Too ranty for Good Friday? Sorry.
The fountain lies at the end of St Andrew's Walk (aka Birdcage walk) in Clifton which leads to the site of St Andrew's church (bombed flat in the war). It's a lovely spot even with no greenery but even better with.
Son #1 and #2 joined me on a bit of walk via the park, cafe (hot chocolate for Son #2, taken with a spoon and orange juice and cookie for Son #1). Passed the Lansdown, a pub I last entered on celebrating my engagement 13 years ago and the York Cafe (now poshed up and wine barred).
A good morning, ending with a needless purchase of a mountain bike magazine. Too weak, too weak...
