Penstemon acaulis

Native to a slice of southwestern Wyoming and northeastern Utah. For many it is the ultimate Penstemon or bearded tounge. You can see the "bearded tounge" the fifth stamen (Penstemon) in the center of the flower.

This is living in a trough of mine, While difficult to grow it helps showcase the importance of growing plants both common or rare. It grows in a harsh corner of the world: wild and beautiful, but as always threatened by the hand of man. To my knowledge none of its habitat is fully protected. A large man made lake probably wiped out thousands of plants, off road vechicles and wheat fields have made "progress" through the middle of its habitat.
