Happy Easter
Doesn't really feel like easter today. I'm not sure why, it just hasn't struck me. I don't know if It normally just doesn't make any impact and I was expecting something. But it's just completely not. Must be the weather.
Anyways, today we got our chickens <3
First off we went to the carboot, had a potter about for ten minutes, then after picking up my sister from a sleepover we headed to 'Honeydown Poultry Farm' in Patching to have a look at what they had available. They had quite a few battery hens, some Light Sussex, a Speckeldy and some other brown hybrids.
Apparently chicken sales have gone through the roof. Anyways after a lot of debating, we came away with two battery hens and a speckledy. My youngest sister bridget really wanted an 'orange one' so I told her that when our battery hens get better (with her love and care of course) they will look like she wanted. Which is true.
Anyways we've come up with names, and mine is the speckledy called Miranda (after Miranda Hart), My sister Lydia called hers 'Ginny' and Bridget called hers 'Maisie'.
They've all more or less settled in, however we were told that in order to establish a pecking order over the next few days there will be a bit of scuffling and fighting between them. And unfortunately they are taking the brunt of it out on miranda, who although fairly bigger in size, is younger and she is getting attacked at the moment. But hopefully it'll all blow over soon and she'll be right as rain.
It's so nice to have them though. This is miranda pictured, I took the photo quickly and shortly after she was of course attacked by Maisie, and as I had the door open to take the photo she ran out in order to get away from the onslaught. And I had to quickly catch her, as we are keeping them in their run so that they know it's a safe place to roost and suchforth.
Oh and...
