Big Buddha
Today (Easter Monday), we went to visit the Big Buddha at Lantau Island. It's taken us so long to visit for some reason, it's not actually too far away for us as we live on Lantau but still a 50 minute twisty turny bus ride. Kindly, the boys came with me on the bus on the way there but on the way back they got the cable car - which you wouldn't catch me doing unless I was blindfolded and heavily sedated! Apparently the views were amazing though.
It really is an awesome sight the Buddha and the largest bronze in the world, but hard to capture perspective in a photo, I think I took better photos than this one, but I like it as it has Jack and Charlie in it. I would have liked to do a montage but don't know how! The two women behind the boys in this photo under the umbrella managed to get in nearly every shot I took - I think we were walking up at exactly the same pace - they were even in the cable car next to Rich, Jack and Charlie on the way home - spooky!
After our walk up the steps and around the Buddha we had a vegetarian lunch (no meat allowed) of rice and stir fried veggies - all pretty good for the price, but you wouldn't want to look in the kitchen - best not to think about it!!
I love the setting and the feeling of the Buddha and the monastery, all mountains, colourful flags, incense and general calm despite the increasing numbers of people arriving, thankfully as we were leaving.
