On top of the world
Son number 1 has arrived safe and sound and in good spirits. The forecast was good so we decided to do a massive walk, We left at 11 and staggered in around 4.30, sunburnt and footsore but elated. We parked at Glanlough then walked along the ridge climbing higher and higher as we went. It was fantastic! Boggy moorland at the top but looking down we could see the sea on each side and the land dotted all over with little emerald fields.
We saw:
places where turf had been cut
little larks ascending
butterwort and lungwort
bog and bogbean
abandoned farms
two white donkeys
a battered hillfort
a puddle full of tadpoles (alive)
a dried up puddle full of tadpoles (dead)
a bluebell copse
streams and waterfalls
orchids
We ate large salad and cheese rolls at the summit and just gawped at it all. We saw four other walkers - well I suppose it is a bank holiday!!
Now himself is making a curry, we have a bottle of wine chilling and Let Me In (the American version of Let the right One in) to watch. All good :)
Oh, and the cards are selling!!
