Holy Moley
C and I spent a most excellent 4 hours exploring the local paths. We saw:
Stunning moorland and forest
Beautiful meadows
Scabby farms
A deer
Lots of sheep, young and old (we rescued a lambkin that had got itself separated from the flock...and yes it was black...)
Cows (they do have incredibly long tongues)
Rabbits
Grouse
Pheasant
A Husky puppy
A dead mole (pictured). How hanging it from barbed wire is going to serve as a deterrent to its subterranean brethren, I'm not sure. :-/
All this in an 8 mile walk, the furthest point of which was only probably 4 miles from the doorstep. I am aware that I live in a great part of the country, but I was amazed at how remote it is possible to feel such a short distance from a couple of significant towns. Must do more local walking and mountain biking!
