Ninety Six!!!

Bank holiday Monday.

Cardiff City played Preston North End this afternoon. Both teams were fighting for something. Cardiff to stay third in the league (and maybe go second), Preston to stay in the league.

At the same time Norwich were playing Derby. Cardiff's place in the league would be determined by the result of both games.

6 minutes into the game Cardiff scored putting them second in the league.

45 minutes into the other game, Norwich scored putting them second and Cardiff third. 9 minutes later Derby scored putting Cardiff second and Norwich third. On the hour Norwich scored again putting them back to second. 3 minutes later Derby equalised (2 all) putting Cardiff back to second. 95 minutes into the Cardiff - Preston game, the ref blew his whistle to end the match. Cardiff had won 1 nil and Preston were relegated.

Norwich and Derby were still locked at 2 all leaving Cardiff in second place. 96 MINUTES into the Norwich - Derby game, Norwich snatched a winner (3-2) and the ref blew his whistle to end the game. My heart sank to the soles of my feet.

With 2 games left to play, Norwich are second in the table (and claiming the second automatic promotion spot) with 80 points and Cardiff sit third with 79 points.

I need to go and have a lie down.......
