In Tents Activists
One last wander around the square by our hostel today, before we head out tomorrow to pastures new.
Known as Zocalo, it's the historical plaza and centre for both national and city-wide government - making it a melting pot for political protests and rallies.
The entire area is currently swarthed in banners and tents, most appearing to be pretty angry with current president Felipe Calderon.
Unfortunatly, as all the banners were in Spanish, I can't be totally sure what the message was, but there was an effigy of the controversial president, pasted with the American flag and hung beneath a banner exclaiming 'Imperialismo'.
There were also some more poignant messages, including a sea of painted handprints on the ground, and the piles of shoes seen above - presumably a reference to the thousands of lives lost since the Calderon's famous 'War on Drugs' began.
