park twilight

I was off to meet A at the pub and I always like the long shadows at sunset. This is the park almost opposite my house.

The council have been "improving" it

They cut down a load of rather scrubby but well established trees by the skate park. Including the only tree that had berries in the autumn.

Then very brainily they planted a load more trees all round the park and left them throughout the summer (when it never rained for about twelve weeks) without watering them

The following year they sent round their gardeners to dig up the dead trees and fill in the holes.

Sheer genius

They did do some other bits of landscaping that worked better if I am completely fair, but those plants too were left unwatered and would have done far better had they been watered even a couple of times

But the work was done just before the park was inspected for some sort of park award and the inspection was before the trees and lots of the shrubs had died and the weeds had grown back etc, so they got the award and then had to put up a flagpole with a flag on it saying they had the award.
