carbeth holiday hut

nice walk today along part of the West Highland Way (footpath from Milngavie to Fort William) - went as far as the Carbeth Inn - which is a 10 mile round trip from my home in Milngavie.

Passed through the Carbeth Hut Community* on the way.

* The remarkable Carbeth Hut Community (12 miles north of Glasgow) set amongst trees is the result of what has been called a 'grand social experiment'. The first resident was an ex-serviceman who built a holiday home here in 1919, on a plot of land rented from the philanthropic owner. By the late Thirties, there were about thirty huts in the community; nowadays there are over two hundred sites, most of them occupied. The huts are built from a patchwork collection of materials and can vary markedly in style, size and colour!
