Mother Nature's fury
Thursday
Yesterday evening and last night saw some of the most violent weather seen in this country for about 40 years. The death toll rose steadily throughout the day: at least 195 in Alabama, 34 in Tennessee, 32 in Mississippi, 14 in Georgia, 12 in Arkansas, five in Virginia and one in Kentucky. The devastation is unbelievable and heartbreaking. About 1 million people are without power, and for many of those, they will be without power for days if not weeks to come. My heart goes out to all those who've lost family members or friends, and to all those who've lost everything they owned. We were fortunate here, we just had high winds and yet more torrential rain to add to our already record rainfall. At the beginning of the week here in Cincinnati it became the wettest April on record, now we are close to (if not already exceeded) it being the wettest month ever on record - over four times the average rainfall for the month! We have water seeping into one corner of our basement, but what is that compared to losing everything - kind of puts things into perspective. Today we actually saw some blue sky and sunshine, a rare sight this month, before the rain returned this evening! However, the next two days are supposedly going to be dry - Hallelujah!
