Somehow You Make It Better.....

On the morning of my wedding day, I got into the car to do a few last minute errands, and Van Morrison was playing on the radio.

I took it as a sign.

We received a present that morning, and in my husband's traditional absence, I opened it and sat opened mouthed as I gazed in amazement at the Clock.

The clock was plastic, sprayed gold, with a circular centerpiece, with two semi circles on either side of varying sizes. From the centre of each of the semi-circles, to the centre of the middle circle, were two bridging bands. From the top centre, a joining piece was fixed. I lifted the clock from the box, and under the clock, was an Anchor. The Anchor, fixed on to a little bar which clicked in place above the clock face.

The time mechanism of the clock made the anchor sway back and forward.

Every 15 minutes, a partial jig sounded. On the hour, a Sailor's Hornpipe played.

This gift, was a nod to my Husband's career as a Sailor in the Royal Navy.

I phoned him, I had to. I phoned him and described this masterpiece, and let him hear the noise of it down the phone. How we giggled.

At the reception, after the wedding, through which, neither he nor I behaved with any of the dignity which we have just witnessed today; I met with one of the benefactors of the gift.

First off, she was horrified that I had opened it outwith the presence of my husband, and secondly she just couldn't see the amusement of telling her that I had phoned him to let him "hear" it.

That kind of ended the relationship with my in-laws.

Oaft!
