Battle Field
Doesn't look particularly impressive, but history changed in this field. It's the site of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 - 7,000 dead including one English king, the last successful invasion of England, and the day when Anglo-Saxon England fell and Norman England took its place.
I visited today to get away from the royal wedding hysteria. Seems to me that although much has changed in the past 1000 years, we still choose for our nation to be headed by the descendents of medieval robber barons and warlords. Progress?
