"Common" Lizard
Have just spent a day out in fantastic sunshine looking for lizards. Unless you are local or particularly interested in lizards you probably won't know about the lizard issues on the path of the new national cycleway route near Montrose. I was asked to go along on the day the excavations as an independent ecologist and all went well. This one was the only one picked up on the section that was excavated, probably due to the hard work of volunteer lizard resuers who had been hard at work for a couple of weeks. Once the spoil mounds have grassed over the habitat next to the new path will actually have been improved for lizards so if you are along the stretch north of Montrose keep you eyes open!
Like Dr Who lizards have the power to regenerate and this female has at some time lost the end of her tail and is in the process of regrowing it.
She will now be relocated a safe distance from the new cycletrack so there is no danger of her getting hurt as the track is laid.
