Britannia

An English cousin and her husband are visiting, and I went with them when they visited Britannia today.

It was hard to decide what to photograph that would capture the feel of this vessel: it isn't opulent as some might expect of something designed for royalty. The most telling thing I saw about the way this place worked was the rule that there could be NO shouting so crew had elaborate hand semaphore system to communicate in bad weather. Peace & quiet, and comfort & privacy for HM were all-iimportant.


So, in the end, I decided on this well-worn hand rail, a dark gloss on the wood after years of polishing with dusters or spotless white gloves.
