and stay in and do something less boring instead
Contrary to my fear, removing the woodchip wallpaper from the ceiling in Edgar's room didn't cause the entire ceiling to fall down. One of the larger cracks has a largish looseish chunk which will fall down at some point and there's no way that simply filling the cracks, sanding the filler and papering or painting over the top will conceal the presence of large cracks (for which replastering would be required, preferably including the installation of timbers to support the old ceiling and the new plasterboard-ceiling an inch or two beneath it) but the paper came off reasonably easily without gripping too tenaciously. I even had a bit of time spare to prepare some of the holes and measurements for fitting the new shower screen (which I don't think will prevent leaks, though am prepared to try it even though installing it properly voids the warranty) which shall take place tomorrow, hopefully leaving some of the day whilst Edgar and Nicky are away at the party of one of his colleagues for trundling around during.
