City of Truro
As I mentioned on yesterday's blip today was the Kent & East Sussex Railway Steam Gala so Cal and I had a day of riding around on steam trains. There is a guest engine there at the moment - the City of Truro. Built in 1903, the year the Wright brothers flew at Kittyhawk, she broke the 100 mph barrier the following year when she recorded a speed of 102.3 mph on 9th May near Taunton in Somerset. Lots of people turned out to see her and there were photographers in fields by the track side as well as at the stations and level crossings.
The photo shows Cal - in the straw hat - on the footplate. He was invited by one of the engineers who knows him from the Saturday work in the engine shed. Calum was very pleased with this!
Time to chill on the sofa now - Indiana Jones and Some Tales of Nonsense is on TV. Enjoy your Sunday evening.
