The glorious revolution

Someone decided in 1788 to construct an obelisk on the site of the original Kendal castle in memory of the 1688 revolution.

This was when James II was deposed by his daughter Mary and her husband William as he was disliked for being a Catholic. This changed the monarchy into a constitutional one that was more answerable to parliament.
