Labour day

Teekkaritorvet, a student wind band from Oulu, came into the world in the early 1970s. From a small group of technology students desperate to express their artistic side has spawned a large multidisciplinary family, who even get paid for playing.

Our impressive repertoire ranges from jazz, soul, rock, and march music to traditional Finnish dance music. We regularly play at university and student festivities and are sometimes even invited to them. To mention some of our musical highlights, we have for example performed with the Finnish cult icon M.A. Numminen in 2004 and played at the Lieksa Brass Week in 2003. Every two years we participate in Puhallus, a meeting for Finnish student wind bands. We also try to cultivate ourselves with concert trips abroad.

Most of our players are university students, but basically we welcome anybody who can put together a music stand. Playing a wind instrument is of course an asset.

Yepyep, so our family visited the traditional Labour day gig at the city centre. Our son U got a balloon and daughter S slept over it without noticing the nice atmosphere ;)
