Talkin' Bout A Revolution

It started quietly to the side of the square, almost hesitently - shuffling feet, a few muffled voices and a raised banner or two. Then after a few minutes more confidently - shouts, banner waving, flags raised high in the light breze and unified chanting 'victory to the revolution'

While around them small children played football and chased pigeons, teenagers sat around in groups chatting and listening to music and friends sat on benches eating lunch and enjoying the sun.

A typical Glasgow afternoon really - a small political protest (this one seemed to be against Gadaffi) going on amidst the everyday life of George Square. So everyday that no-one really paid it any attention.

But what visibly struck me was that amidst all the protesters there was not one woman. Are they all happy with Gadaffi - or were they all busy at home making up some kind of splendid picnic lunch for the bank holiday? I have a strong susicion that the desired liberation the protesters are seeking may not apply to all people equally......

Don?t you know, they?re talkin? 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
Don?t you know, they?re talkin? 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper

While they?re standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time, in the unemployment lines
Sitting around, waiting for a promotion

Don?t you know, they?re talkin? 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
Poor people gonna rise up and get their share
Poor people gonna rise up and take what?s theirs

Don?t you know, you better run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run
Oh, I said you better, run, run, run, run, run, run, run

Run, run, run, run, run

'Cus finally the tables are starting to turn, talkin? 'bout a revolution
'Cus finally the tables are starting to turn, talkin? 'bout a revolution, oh no
Talkin? 'bout a revolution ,oh

While they're standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waiting for a promotion

Don?t you know, they?re talkin? 'bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper

And finally the tables are starting to turn, talkin? 'bout a revolution
Yes, finally the tables are starting to turn, talkin? 'bout a revolution, oh no
Talkin? bout a revolution, oh no, talkin? bout a revolution, oh no
