Honey

Today I have mostly been revisiting Mr Goldsboro's Honey

We find out a lot about Honey, the protagonist in this sad tale. And we also find out a lot about Mr "Honey", the Perfect Husband. It seems he liked to spoil her; buying her a puppy, laughing at her misplaced enthusiasm for gardening, indulging her weakness for crying at sad films. He wasn't even annoyed when she crashed the car.

And he's devastated that the angels have now taken her elsewhere.

SO? Was he really such a great husband?

Let's examine the evidence a bit closer.

He seems to enjoy laughing at rather than with Honey (RIP). When she almost hurt herself, he "laughed 'til he cried". What sort of a man does that?

He tells us that she was "kinda dumb and kinda smart". Oh, Mr Honey, was she indeed? I think that says more about you rather than the late Honey.

And he bought her a puppy. On Christmas Eve? You know what's happened there, don't you? He's gone to the pub, with the lads, after work. Realised he's forgotten to buy her a present, so he's bought a puppy (pedigree unknown) offa some chav in the pub.

He pretended to be mad when she crashed the car. Control freak! Sounds like poor Honey (God rest her soul) was petrified of Mr Honey.

So then he comes home unexpectedly in the middle of the day. Why? Is he paranoid about what she's up to? Is this just another example of his being a control freak? Why's he not at work?

She's ill. And it sounds terminal. However despite her being so ill, she dies alone, and we have no idea where he is.

I'd hazard a guess that he's with his Fancy Woman. We know that he "works late" and poor Honey had to sit watching the telly on her own. He keeps repeating that he's now "being good". Sounds to me like someone's feeling guilty. Too little, too late, Mr Honey.

And what's happened to the puppy. That's what I'd like to know
